KUTIA WIGILIJNA


Servings: 4
Ingredients:

  • 1 C  Cracked wheat or bulgur             2 C  Water
  • 2 C  Hot water                           1 t  Salt
  • 1/2 C  Poppy seeds                              Festive spirits
  • 1 C  Honey

Soak wheat in about 2 cups of hot water for 30 minutes. Bring to a boil
and cook covered until tender. Mix in poppy seed.

Cook honey with remaining 2 cups of water for 20 minutes. Cool and serve
with wheat and poppy seed mixture.

NOTES:

* Christmas Eve Kutia — This recipe could be used as part of a 12-course
meal known in Polish as Wigilia, or on its own. Wigilia is eaten after
sundown on Christmas Eve. Servings: Serves 4-6.

* For added enjoyment a liberal amount of festive spirits may be added. In
Poland the festive spirit is usually called Spiritus, which is grain
alcohol.
