The Centre for Child Nutrition, Health and Development (CCNHD) brings world-class talent and resources together to tackle the most important nutrition-related health issues facing children and their families in Canada and around the world. We are a network of University of Toronto researchers and educators focused on nutrition and the prevention of obesity, chronic disease and malnutrition in children.

FoodFit is a 12-week program for low-income community members who experience barriers around healthy eating and physical activity but who are motivated to make lasting changes to their health

Dr. Mike Evans is a staff physician at St. Michael’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Family Medicine. He is a Scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and has an endowed Chair in Patient Engagement and Childhood Nutrition at the University of Toronto.

    Hi everyone, I hope you are doing well in both health and moral terms!

    If I can allow myself a little general advice, stick to the program you are currently following and don't give up!

    Do not be impatient, the results will be seen with regularity over time; it is counterproductive to change all the time.

    So I repeat it but I think it is important: follow the diet that you are currently following without being discouraged, if you do not currently have one I suggest this one which is in French https://vu.fr/Q2Gy , but it does not matter , just translate it into English with the right mouse button.

    This doctor should stick to medicine, because he doesn't know much about how to lose weight. Just because somebody is a doctor does not mean they understand obesity.
    Listen to Doc Mike, and you will fail. At least if you listen to his advice back in 2015…he may have learned better since then…

    Here is my very own journey with diet and losing weight
    Usually losing weight requires a lot of dedication and work. I had my own experience with it, I did a lot of research online and offline. I tried many different things to accelerate/reduce my progress of losing weight, and eventually found the way that worked the best for me.     Let me explain something here.
    What should people do to figure out what the best foods to eat are?
    Think about this:
    What do animals do to figure out which foods are best for them to eat? Do animals in nature go to school to learn about nutrition? Since obviously they don't, how do they figure out what to eat? Do these stupid, uneducated creatures die because they never learned what to eat?

    Of course not. All animals, including us humans, instinctively understand what a good diet is. If we didn't, we would not have survived millions of years.
    Animals who live natural lives never have nutrition problems. The same goes for us humans since last I checked, we are animals too.

    We get into trouble when we ignore our instincts and actually learn to eat a different way than what nature tells us how to.
    Humans are arrogant, egotistical and greedy. We believe we are so intelligent we can improve on nature. We believe we can invent technology to improve our diet.
    This is a fallacy. There is no way possible to improve nutrition when we eat foods in a natural, evolutionary fashion.

    Certainly, we can use technology to help us live longer, live healthier and better due to medical and other advancements, but when it comes to nutrition, it's very hard to improve on evolution.
    The majority of animals in nature are extremely healthy. For the most part, the only time they are not is when humans interfere with their way of living and food supplies.

    Just look around at other people. How did we get so unhealthy as a species?
    It's because of our inability to understand our own instincts, and our inability to eat instinctively and eat what we are told to eat by other humans.

    Humans do not understand a better way for humans to eat than what comes natural.
    Ignore science when it comes to diet advice. Follow your instincts…
